I
t was with great pleasure that the Embassy of
Brazil accepted the invitation from Dr. Gerhard
Hrebicek and Dr. René-Alfons Haiden
to participate for the first time in iconvienna.
The eleventh edition of this business forum is
proof that it has become over the years an effective
and efficient contact-platform for project
and investment businesses, not only between
Eastern and Western European companies but
also with other regions of the globe.
The European Union is the biggest trade
partner of Brazil and its biggest foreign investor.
More than 20% of Brazilian exports are destined
to European Union countries and 20% of
Brazilian imports come from the EU. Around
50% of the FDI flows received by Brazil during
the last 5 years originated in the EU. The EU,
on the other hand, is the main destination of
Brazilian foreign direct investment. Many important
Brazilian companies are represented in
Austria.
We are naturally very keen on increasing
and strengthening this strategic partnership
with the EU and Austria, and an important tool
in this regard is to facilitate contacts between
our business communities, particularly between
SMEs.
The array of opportunities for investment
in Brazil is as large and diverse as the country
itself and includes sectors such as energy,
highways, railways, waterways, ports, airports,
telecommunications, generation and transmission
of energy, oil and gas, urban mobility, construction,
tourism and many others. Hence the
main topics of iconvienna 2015 – challenges
and opportunities for innovation and cooperation;
innovations in transport and energy; and
innovations in infrastructure - are perfectly
aligned with our investment and development
priorities.
In 2016, Brazil will be again in the global
spotlight as the city of Rio de Janeiro hosts the
2016 Olympic and Paralympic games. Preparation
for these major sport events are already
under way, opening new business and trade
opportunities, including with regard to the infrastructure
and logistics in the region. We look
forward to welcoming new partners from Austria
and Europe in this endeavor.
Once again, the Embassy of Brazil congratulates
the organizers of iconvienna for their
achievements and wish them a very successful
event.
