a great opportunity

I
t is a privilege and a pleasure for me to
congratulate Dr. Gerhard Hrebicek and
his team through iconannual- The European
Business and Investment Magazine,
for the organization of this year´s iconvienna
and for the opportunity to participate,
offered to the Latin American and the Caribbean
countries.
The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba is
prepared to participate actively in iconvienna,
which will allow us to present the
business opportunities Cuba is offering
today. We are convinced that Austria and
Europe can benefit from them.
In the recent years, Cuba has become an
excellent tourist destination for Europeans.
Last year, we have also launched a new
Law of Foreign Investments and a Portfolio
of Projects of Investment with 246 projects
for a total amount of 8.5 billion USD in key
sectors of the Cuban economy. Since 2014,
Cuba is also promoting the Mariel Special
Development Zone, where it will be possible
to establish new factories in a special
tributary regime.
The main sectors Cuba is promoting in
order to obtain new technologies, knowhow,
markets and external financing are:
Renewable Energy, Sugar, Infrastructure,
Agriculture - Food Industry, Construction,
Tourism, Industry, Solid Urban Waste
Handling Integrated System Drugs and Biotechnology,
Packaging, among others. In
this regard, iconvienna is an ideal place to
share all these possibilities to a specialized
European auditorium.
Cuban and Austrian authorities consider
that the economic and commercial
relationships between our two countries
should be increased at the same level as
our excellent political relationship, and we
are sure iconvienna will offer that opportunity.
As Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba
in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia, I do consider
our participation at iconvienna as an
excellent opportunity to relaunch our economic
and commercial relationships with
Austria and with the rest of the European
countries.
