OBB Infrastructure, Transport & Energy RAILPOWER BOX The energy metering system for the railway of the future. The Railpower box is the leading energy metering system in Europe and enables environmentally friendly Energy Management through clear, minute by minute calculation of locomotive electricity demand. The specially developed user interface, the railpower client, gives improved and faster called-up of information by the user. The railpower client is a web application that allows data collected from the railpower box to be readily visualized. OBB-Infrastruktur AG has developed the railpower box as an electrical energy metering system for traction vehicles that captures energy consumption per train and country in real-time. With the railpower box, energy and location data for international rail traffic is combined and stored in a central database. The recorded data is used for current electricity billing for trains both in Austria and in other countries, including payment settlement with other infrastructure operators. ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG makes this data available to other infrastructure managers based on international standards. In addition, the railpower box has been designed and configured for future development to meet all current and planned international guidelines, according to UIC Leaflet 930, from CENELEC TCX9 WG11 to EN 50463. National requirements, such as the measurement and calibration act and the regulation of individual infrastructure operators, have also been taken into account with the railpower box. Moreover the railpower box is certified by a notified body and approved throughout Europe. Because transparency matters The railpower box enables transparency and cost savings compared to conventional flat rate billing, due to the fully automatic detection of the exact track electricity consumption by train and by country. The information is always available online via the internet through the railpower client user-interface application. Among other data, a representation of the load profile, and total consumption etc. is available. Furthermore, data can be downloaded in different formats and as a representation of spatial data via Google Earth. The capture of the actual consumption by each traction unit and by each country is enabled through GPS. Using the data gathered, energy evaluation and management decisions can be carried out. Billing payment, on the basis of logged data, is made in different countries, with return feed-in to the grid also being taken into account. Border crossings are recorded using GPS, allowing consumption to be allocated by country or region.
