Nicaragua Greetings Dear readers! H. E. Álvaro José Robelo González Ambassador of Nicaragua to Austria, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Greece, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates I would like to thank Dr. Gerhard Hrebicek and his staff for granting us the possibility to participate at the Eleventh Edition of the European Business and Investment Forum iconvienna. The Embassy of Nicaragua in Austria is glad to engage in iconvienna hoping that it will result in business opportunities for European and Nicaraguan entrepreneurs. Nicaragua's high and strengthened security (among the highest security rates in the Americas) and the continued dialogue and consensus among the businessmen, the workers and the Government makes the country particularly interesting and tempting for foreign businessmen. According to a recent visit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nicaragua has an impressive increase rate of its GDP being higher than the average value of the economic increase rate of Latin America. What is the advantage of Nicaragua? • Nicaragua has a young and dynamic labour force with its 76% of the population being below 39 years of age and moreover it counts with a good education due to the increased spending of the Government in the basic, primary and superior education system. • Nicaragua offers one of the most competitive cost structures in the region granting companies the possibility to increase their competitiveness and reduce their operating costs. • A solid legal framework for foreign investments is in force protecting who decides to invest in Nicaragua. • Generous investment incentives. • Preferential market access offering for example trade free for goods between the countries of the European Union and Central America • Favourable business climate through a dialogue involving all private and public stakeholders in the economy of a country. Let me underscore the excellent convenience of the alternative and renewable energy sector in Nicaragua: being a country without crude oil production, it is a land of strong winds, tropical sun an roaring volcanoes which offer a wide range of energy production, already put in place by the authorities. Nevertheless the Government of Nicaragua plans to attract further investments in that sector for a volume of US$ 4 billion in the next 15 years. It would be a pleasure to have Austrian and European entrepreneurs among these. Notwithstanding I also hope that iconvienna is a good platform to become more acquainted with the proven and renown classical products of Nicaragua as coffee, cacao, rum and tobacco. Recently we also started to foster the cultivation of chia seed, rich in omega-3 acids, which enjoys great popularity in European countries. Nicaragua welcomes all interested businessmen and would be delighted to see them becoming partners with Nicaraguan counterparts.
