16. SIM Application Toolkit (SAT) Commands
This chapter offers a brief reference to AT commands and responses related to the TC63i's SIM Application Toolkit
(SAT) implementation. A consistent and detailed description can be found in the "Remote-SAT User's Guide"
[3]. For further advice please contact the Application Engineering Department at Cinterion Wireless Modules
GmbH.
ETSI specification GSM 11.14 [24] defines SAT in detail.
SIM Application Toolkit (SAT) is a technology that allows an application running on the SIM to control the Mobile
Equipment (ME). Remote-SAT (RSAT) provides a link between applications located on the SIM and a customer
application (TA). The purpose of RSAT is to allow the TA to send AT commands to the SAT interface and to display
all SAT activities on the user interface of the customer application.
Two groups of commands are exchanged between the SAT located on the TC63i and the SIM Application running
on the SIM:
• Proactive commands are sent from the SIM application to the TC63i's SAT, such as "DISPLAY TEXT".
• Envelope commands are sent from the TC63i's SAT to the SIM application, such as "MENU SELECTION".
16.1 AT^SSTA SAT Interface Activation
The AT^SSTA write command can be used to specify the Remote-SAT activation mode and, if Explicit
Response mode is enabled, to explicitly activate the Remote SAT interface. Removing and inserting the SIM
does not affect the activation status.
SAT commands which are not using the AT interface (non MMI related SAT commands, e.g. PROVIDE LOCAL
INFORMATION) are executed without activating Remote-SAT.
The read command can be used to request the current operating status and the used alphabet of the Remote-
SAT interface.
