ACADEMIC INFORMATION<br />
FRESHMAN ADVISEMENT<br />
The Office of Academic Advisement coordinates a program of academic advising and testing for<br />
freshman and undecided majors. The mission of Academic Advisement is to provide quality advisement<br />
to students in an effort to assist the <strong>University</strong> with its retention and graduation goals. The ultimate goal<br />
is to assist students in identifying academic goals and developing techniques that will lead to personal and<br />
educational achievements.<br />
If you are an undecided major please contact the office at 410-951-3555. The Office of Academic<br />
Advisement is located in the Health and Human Services Building, Room 224. Hours: Monday,<br />
Tuesday, Thursday - 8:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 6:45 p.m., Friday, 8:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m.<br />
DECLARING A MAJOR<br />
Declaring a major is to officially choose the course of study which you would like to pursue. Admission<br />
to the CSU is not an automatic guarantee of admission to a major program. Each major department<br />
interviews and accepts its own students. To officially declare a major, students must:<br />
1. Complete a Declaration of Major Form<br />
2. Meet with the appropriate Chairperson for acceptance in the major and assignment of a<br />
departmental advisor;<br />
3. Submit the completed Declaration of Major Form to the Office of Academic Advisement.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s must declare their major before completing 36 credit hours. <strong>Student</strong>s obtain the Declaration of<br />
Major Form from www.coppin.edu/AcademicAdvisement/Declaring.aspx. The completed form must be<br />
returned to the Office of Academic Advisement.<br />
FULL-TIME STATUS<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s are encouraged to take at least fifteen (15) credit hours. Full-time status for undergraduate<br />
students is earned by taking twelve (12) or more credit hours per semester. Graduate students who carry<br />
nine (9) or more credit hours are full-time.<br />
PART-TIME STATUS<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s taking less than twelve (12) credit hours are part-time. Graduate students who carry less than<br />
nine (9) credits are also considered part-time.<br />
