3. If an invalid election occurs, the <strong>Student</strong> Senate shall elect from its membership by a twothirds<br />

vote of the full Senate, the President and Vice President.<br />

4. In the event that a two-thirds majority is not obtained in the Senate, a run-off between the<br />

top two contenders shall be held. The candidate then receiving the majority votes will assume<br />

office.<br />

B. Candidates<br />

1. Candidates for President and Vice President shall be full-time members of the <strong>Student</strong><br />

Association and must have attended at least three Senate meetings and one Senate event on<br />

their behalf prior to running for office.<br />

2. Candidates for President must have held an executive board position, and/or actively<br />

participated in the <strong>Student</strong> Senate for at least one Senate session before running for office.<br />

3. All candidates for any <strong>Student</strong> Senate office must meet the other qualifications specified<br />

within this document.<br />

C. Time and Purpose<br />

1. Election of the President and Vice President for the <strong>Student</strong> Senate shall be held no later than<br />

the fourth Friday in April of each year.<br />

2. The candidates for President and Vice President, as well as proposed referenda and/or<br />

amendments to this constitution, are to be placed on the ballot at that time.<br />

D. The Treasurer and Secretary shall be elected by the majority vote of a quorum of the Senate.<br />

E. Officers of the Senate cannot be elected to nor hold the same office position for more than two<br />

Senate sessions.<br />

Section 7. Senate Meetings<br />

A. During a session, not fewer than ten meetings shall be called, and not fewer than five per<br />

semester. All senators shall be given in writing the list of regularly scheduled meetings for the<br />

session by September 15. Notice of any Senate meeting must be posted in a conspicuous place at<br />

least seven days in advance of such meetings.<br />

B. All meetings of the Senate shall be held at a time and place convenient to the majority of the<br />

members and shall be open to all undergraduate students unless a closed session is called and<br />

approved by the Senate.<br />

C. Attendance at meetings by all Senators is mandatory. If a Senator misses two regular meetings<br />

without the approval of the Senate, the Senator shall forfeit membership in the <strong>Student</strong> Senate.<br />

D. Special meetings may be called by the President to deal with emergency situations which require<br />

the sanction of the entire Senate if personal notification is sent to all Senators. Personal<br />

notification is defined as correspondence forwarded to the <strong>University</strong>'s official local address of<br />

each senator.<br />

E. The <strong>Student</strong> Senate shall hold at least one general meeting of the Association each academic year.<br />
