E. To maintain an accurate record of all Senate business including the minutes and other pertinent<br />

material which shall constitute the <strong>Student</strong> Senate Journal. The Journal is the document<br />

containing all the minutes and records from Senate meetings.<br />

F. To maintain an accurate register of the membership of the Senate and listing of its committee<br />

members and chairpersons.<br />

G. To perform any other duty that may be required of this office.<br />

ARTICLE V - Committees and Duties<br />

Section 1. There shall be two types of committees:<br />

A. Standing Committees: The Chairperson shall be elected from within the ranks of the Senate<br />

excluding officers, by a majority vote, except where otherwise noted in this Constitution.<br />

B. Ad Hoc Committees: The Chairperson shall be elected from within the ranks of the Senate,<br />

officers excluded, by majority vote.<br />

Section 2. The Standing Committees of the Senate shall include the following:<br />

The Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Election Committee, Merit Awards Committee,<br />

Committee on Clubs and Organizations, and the Rules Committee.<br />

Section 3. Chairpersons<br />

Chairpersons shall call and preside over regular meetings of their respective committees. Committees<br />

shall deliberate on matters referred to them by the President and/or Senate. Reports from committee<br />

chairpersons shall be submitted in writing to the Secretary of the Senate for inclusion in the Senate<br />

Journal within five (5) school days following each committee meeting.<br />

Section 4. Designated Standing Committee<br />

Any designated standing committee shall meet at least once a month or as the need arises.<br />

Section 5. The Executive Committee<br />

The Executive Committee shall be responsible for carrying out Senate business or directives and<br />

overseeing any Senate committee. All actions by any Senate committee must be consistent with Senate<br />

policy. The Executive Committee shall act on any matter that may be deemed an emergency in the<br />

interim between meetings of the <strong>Student</strong> Senate. The Executive Committee shall have the power to<br />

recommend a review of any club or organization and any Senate committee.<br />

Section 6. The Finance Committee<br />

The Finance Committee shall review and recommend approval or disapproval of 1). the funding of all<br />

undergraduate organizations and 2) petitions approved by the Director of <strong>Student</strong> Activities, 3). Make<br />

recommendations to the Senate on all petitions and the amount the Committee decided the club or<br />

organization should received based on the information submitted to the Committee and 4). Meet with all<br />

clubs and organizations two weeks after their event to complete an evaluation of the event; and, the<br />

Committee shall ensure compliance with the <strong>University</strong>’s funding guidelines for organizations.<br />

Section 7. The Election Committee<br />

The Election Committee shall call for and oversee all elections and appointments to the <strong>Student</strong> Senate<br />

(including applications and publicity) subject to the approval of the Senate.<br />
