3. Must be in good academic standing with the <strong>University</strong> at time of election and during his<br />

or her term in office.<br />

4. Must not graduate prior to the completion of his or her term in office.<br />

5. Can only represent one organization while serving during any session.<br />

6. Shall immediately forfeit office if any of these requirements are not maintained during<br />

the term of office.<br />

Section 4. Election of Senators<br />

A. The nomination and election process to elect Senators to the <strong>Student</strong> Senate must be<br />

conspicuously advertised, and the results of the election must be submitted to the Senate Election<br />

Committee by each organization before the 1st of April. Organizations who are electing Senators<br />

must submit the following information to the Senate Election Committee to support their election<br />

results.<br />

1. Number of members involved in the departmental organization or members in the nondepartmental<br />

organization.<br />

2. Name and social security numbers of students in the organization who voted.<br />

3. The results of the voting and all the ballots used in the voting.<br />

B. When a Senate seat is vacant, it can be filled by a special election of the organization. From the<br />

date the Senate Election Committee notifies the organization in writing, the organization has<br />

thirty (30) days to submit the name of the new Senator to the Senate. If the organization fails to<br />

complete the above process within the thirty-day (30) period, the organization shall lose its<br />

Senate seat and vote for the remainder of the session.<br />

Section 5. Transitional Meetings<br />

A. The Director of <strong>Student</strong> Activities shall call a meeting of the new Senate members of the next<br />

session by May 15, for the purpose of installing the President for the new session.<br />

B. One week after the first meeting, a second transitional meeting shall take place to brief newly<br />

elected members of the past year's activities and policies and procedures of the Senate and<br />

<strong>University</strong>.<br />

Section 6. Officers of the Senate<br />

The Officers shall be the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary of <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

<strong>Student</strong> Senate. These officers shall perform their duties as prescribed by this constitution.<br />

A. Valid Election for President and Vice President<br />

1. A valid student election shall require that at least twenty-five percent (25%) of the total<br />

undergraduate <strong>Student</strong> Association participate in the election.<br />

2. If twenty-five percent (25%) student participation is not reached, the election is considered<br />

invalid.<br />
