handicapping condition be permitted unless it is specifically related to the individual's ability to perform<br />
the job to which he or she is to be assigned.<br />
Any disabled student or employee at <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> who feels his or her rights under Section<br />
504 have been violated, may register a formal complaint with the <strong>University</strong>'s Affirmative Action Officer,<br />
located in the Department of Human Resources at 410-951-3666.<br />
The Officer, in turn, will submit such complaint, with his/her observations for consideration, to the<br />
Committee for Handicapped <strong>Student</strong>s and Staff which monitors the <strong>University</strong>’s compliance with the<br />
federal regulations concerning the handicapped.<br />
What is ROTC?<br />
RESERVE OFFICERS' TRAINING CORPS (ROTC)<br />
Army ROTC is an educational program combining college electives in military science with practical<br />
leadership training to prepare men and women to become commissioned officers in the United <strong>State</strong>s<br />
Army, the Army National Guard, and the United <strong>State</strong>s Army Reserve.<br />
The program consists of a voluntary two-year Basic Course open to all interested students and a two-year<br />
Advanced Course for those who have completed the Basic Course (or equivalent) and have accepted a<br />
military service obligation.<br />
Basic Course (Military Science I and Military Science II)<br />
Freshman and Sophomore Level Courses<br />
Develop skills in leadership, time management, and planning<br />
No Service Obligation<br />
Paid stipend of $300 to $350 for qualified students<br />
Opportunities to participate in local and national events, field trips, and adventure training<br />
Advanced Course (Military Science III and Military Science IV)<br />
Junior and Senior Level Courses<br />
Further leadership and management development, tactics, ethics, and professionalism<br />
Must commit to joining the Army as a Commissioned Officer upon graduation<br />
Attend a 35 day leadership course in the Summer<br />
Paid a stipend of $450 to $500<br />
Plan and conduct training for Basic Course participants<br />
During participation in either the Basic Course or Advance Course, qualified students willing to make a<br />
military commitment are eligible for an Army ROTC Scholarship and other monies to help pay for<br />
college. The award of a merit-based competitive ROTC Scholarship includes:<br />
• Full Tuition or Room and Board up to $10,000 per year<br />
• $300 - $500 Stipend per month<br />
• $1,200 allowance for books per year<br />
Scholarship General Eligibility<br />
• Be a U.S. Citizen<br />
• Be between 17 and 27 years old<br />
