ARTICLE II - Organization and Membership<br />

Section 1. Membership<br />

All undergraduate students, by virtue of their registration at <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>, are members of<br />

<strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Association and shall be subject to this constitution.<br />

Section 2. Organization of Senate<br />

A. The <strong>Student</strong> Senate shall be composed of elected student representatives of clubs and<br />

organizations from the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Education, and<br />

appropriate representatives of non-academic undergraduate organizations and classes.<br />

B. The membership of the <strong>Student</strong> Senate shall be as follows:<br />

1. Two Senators shall represent the students of each recognized departmental organization<br />

of the <strong>University</strong>; these Senators must have a declared major within that department and<br />

shall have full-time day or evening school status.<br />

2. Two Senators, full-time students, shall represent each of the undergraduate nondepartmental<br />

organizations and classes which are recognized and funded by the <strong>Student</strong><br />

Senate. These organizations must have been recognized by the Senate for two<br />

consecutive academic semesters preceding application for representative seat. Full-time<br />

students are defined by the <strong>University</strong> catalog.<br />

3. Two Senators, full-time students, shall be elected from the incoming freshman class<br />

during the month of September to serve for one academic year.<br />

4. Two Senators, part-time students, shall be elected from the School of Education<br />

enrollment to represent the part-time students.<br />

Section 3. Qualifications for the Election of Senators<br />

A. Full-Time <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

1. Must have been a full-time student for at least two semesters at <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

immediately prior to assuming office, except for incoming freshmen.<br />

2. Must be a full-time student during his or her term in office.<br />

3. Must be in good academic standing with the <strong>University</strong> at the time of election and during<br />

his or her term in office.<br />

4. Must not graduate prior to the completion of his or her term in office.<br />

5. Can represent only one organization while serving during any session.<br />

6. Shall immediately forfeit office if any of these requirements are not maintained during<br />

the term of office.<br />

7. Must have passed or enrolled in English 101.002 prior to being elected to the office,<br />

except for incoming freshmen and transfer students.<br />

B. Part-Time <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

1. Must have been a part-time student at <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> for at least one semester<br />

immediately prior to assuming office.<br />

2. Must be a part-time student during his or her term in office.<br />
