funding will require all students to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal <strong>Student</strong> Aid) on or<br />

before March 1 st for the fall semester and spring semester of that aid year at www.fafsa.ed.gov. In<br />

addition, all required verification documents e.g., (tax returns, 1040’s, W-2 forms and verification<br />

worksheets) must be received by May 15. FAFSA applications received after March 1stt and documents<br />

for verification received after their deadline date will be processed; however, those submitted prior to the<br />

deadline dates receive first consideration to be awarded prior to the start for the fall semester. All<br />

documents should be faxed to (410) 951-2551, and they will need to include your <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

student ID#.<br />

The office hours of operation for walk-ins are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30<br />

p.m., and Friday, 8:30a.m. – 3:00p.m. Appointments can be made with a financial aid officer via email to<br />

arrange date and time. If there are any additional questions, refer to the <strong>Coppin</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> website<br />

FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR<br />

The First-year Seminar course is required of all students transferring twenty-five credits or fewer to CSU.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s expressing an interest in a particular academic major enroll in discipline specific sections. In<br />

other words, science majors take First-year seminar with other science majors; pre-nursing majors with<br />

other pre-nursing majors; etc.<br />

First-year Seminar fosters the development of academic skills; orients students to campus resources and<br />

organizations; develops critical thinking strategies within specific disciplines; introduces general<br />

education requirements; encourages career planning; develops a sense of community on campus;<br />

increases student interactions with faculty and staff; and develops support networks and friendships<br />

among First-year Seminar classmates. Additionally, individual conferences are arranged for transfer and<br />

readmitted students to help them evaluate their past academic records in terms of <strong>Coppin</strong>'s current<br />

graduation requirements.<br />

FRESHMAN ADVISEMENT<br />

The Office of Academic Advisement coordinates a program of academic advising and testing for<br />

freshman and undeclared majors. The mission of Academic Advisement is to provide quality advisement<br />

to students in an effort to assist the <strong>University</strong> with its retention and graduation goals. The ultimate goal<br />

is to assist students in identifying academic goals and developing techniques that will lead to personal and<br />

educational achievements.<br />

If you are an undecided major please contact the office at 410-951-3555. The Office of Academic<br />

Advisement is located in the Health Human and Services Building. Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday<br />

- 8:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Friday, 8:30 a.m. 3:00 p.m.<br />

FULL-TIME STATUS<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are encouraged to take at least fifteen (15) credit hours. Full-time status for undergraduate<br />

students is earned by taking twelve (12) or more credit hours per semester. Graduate students who carry<br />

nine (9) or more credit hours are full-time.<br />
