Chapter Four Assessment and the Traits of Good Writing Assessment and accountability are more important than ever in education, and whatever the assessment strategy you use in your writing class, you will no doubt need to justify your methods to parents, administrators, and/or other teachers. Make sure to clear any deviations from district and school policy before implementing your own assessment strategy. In addition, regardless of the assessment strategy you use on a day-to-day basis, you will want to be sure to at least preview the assessment that is used on your district examinations. As you read this chapter, keep in mind that assessment is not grading (a similar comparison to revision and editing).
