Public realm elements will serve as the common thread that
binds the various areas within the ARTIC Mixed-Use District
together. The quality and design of the public realm play
an important role in establishing a “sense of place” and
creating a positive experience for transit users and visitors.
The public realm guidelines establish a design framework
for the public spaces within the ARTIC Mixed-Use District
to ensure that the complex is designed to encourage and
facilitate transit use. The guidelines contain qualitative
criteria that provide an overall design direction for the
entire Mixed-Use complex, while encouraging creativity
and flexibility in design and development of individual
areas within the site.
4.1 Landscape Concept
The landscape and hardscape character of the ARTIC Mixed-
Use District will reflect the timeless design vernacular of the
place. The landscape design will integrate the aesthetic
and functional requirements of the pedestrian-scale Mixed-
Use development with the inherent character of plant
communities found in Southern California. Plant species,
sizes, colors and layouts and hardscape materials shall be
selected to reinforce the overall design theme, scale and
visual connection of the ARTIC Mixed-Use District.
A Master Landscape Plan shall be required for the entire
ARTIC Mixed-Use District to ensure a cohesive and
coordinated landscape design. The Master Landscape
Plan should include, but not limited to, the following
information:
