MARINE CORPS UNIFORM REGULATIONS<br />

f. Any other U.S. service/foreign/civilian breast insignia may be<br />

accepted by an individual, but will not be worn on Marine Corps <strong>uniform</strong>s.<br />

2. Insignia Descriptions<br />

a. Aviation Insignia. Basic naval aviation wings are gold metal wings 2-<br />

3/4 inches from tip to tip. Centerpieces vary to distinguish aviation<br />

specialties.<br />

(1) The naval aviator insignia is a bronze, gold metal pin consisting<br />

of a fouled anchor surmounted by a shield, centered on the basic wings. The<br />

fouled anchor is 7/8 inch long. The height and width of the shield is 1/2<br />

inch.<br />

(2) The naval flight officer insignia is a gold metal pin consisting<br />

of two crossed fouled anchors surcharged with a shield, centered on the basic<br />

wings. The fouled anchors are 7/8 inch long. The height and width of the<br />

shield is 1/2 inch.<br />

(3) The Marine aerial navigator insignia is a gold metal pin<br />

consisting of the basic wings with a central device of two fouled anchors<br />

surmounted by a replica of a <strong>marine</strong>r's compass, superimposed on a silvercolored<br />

disk. The fouled anchors are 5/8 inch long; diameter of the disk,<br />

1/2 inch; diameter of the compass, 3/8 inch.<br />

(4) The naval aviation observer insignia is a gold metal pin<br />

consisting of the basic wings with a central device of an "O" circumscribing<br />

an erect plain anchor, both in silver in bold relief, the center of the "O"<br />

being filled with gold. The outer diameter of the "O" is 3/4 inch; inner<br />

diameter, 9/16 inch; height of the anchor, 1/2 inch.<br />

(5) The naval aircrew insignia is a gold metal pin consisting of the<br />

basic wings with a circular center design and anchor with the block letters<br />

"AC" superimposed. The circle diameter is 3/4 inch; anchor height is 1/2<br />

inch.<br />

(6) The combat aircrew insignia is an metal pin having silver wings,<br />

with a gold-colored circular shield with superimposed fouled anchor; the word<br />

"AIRCREW" in raised letters on a silver-colored background below the circular<br />

shield; above the shield is a silver-colored scroll; the insignia measures 2<br />

inches from wing tip to wing tip; circle on the shield, 5/16 inch in<br />

diameter. Gold stars, up to a total of three, as merited, will be mounted on<br />

the scroll, necessary holes being pierced to receive them. A silver star may<br />

be worn in lieu of three gold stars.<br />

b. Parachutist Insignia<br />

(1) The basic parachutist insignia is a silver pin about 1-1/2 inches<br />

long and 3/4 inch high, consisting of an open parachute flanked on either<br />

side by wings curving up and inward so that the tips join the edge of the<br />

parachute canopy.
