MARINE CORPS UNIFORM REGULATIONS<br />
will pass through the buckle, feeding back around the locking bar to the<br />
wearer’s left, with the belt-end extending 4 to 8 inches beyond the buckle.<br />
The buckle will be kept subdued in flat black finish. The buckle will be<br />
worn with the locking bar cinched tightly into the buckle.<br />
a. Qualified Marines will wear only the single color of utility belt with<br />
or without instructor stripes appropriate to their martial arts proficiency,<br />
per the current edition of MCO 1500.54. Martial arts utility belts are not<br />
authorized for wear with civilian attire.<br />
b. Personnel designated as close combat instructors or instructortrainers<br />
will wear the appropriate identifying stripes on their belts.<br />
Instructor stripes will be 1/2-inch tan or red stripes, as appropriate, sewn<br />
on perpendicular to the length of the belt in thread that matches the color<br />
of the stripe. First stripe will be placed 2 inches from the belt-end<br />
holding the buckle, and each subsequent stripe placed 1/4 inch intervals from<br />
the previous stripe.<br />
3003. BOATCLOAK/DRESS CAPE. (See fig. 2-1.)<br />
1. The boatcloak, made of dark blue broadcloth material lined with scarlet<br />
wool broadcloth, is an optional item which may be worn by male officers and<br />
SNCOs with evening dress and blue dress "A"/"B" <strong>uniform</strong>s for official and<br />
social functions. It will not be worn when the blue dress <strong>uniform</strong> is worn as<br />
the <strong>uniform</strong> of the day.<br />
2. The dress cape, made of dark blue polyester-wool tropical material lined<br />
with scarlet satin rayon cloth, is an optional item which may be worn by<br />
female officers and SNCOs with the evening dress and blue dress "A"/"B"<br />
<strong>uniform</strong>s for official and social functions. It will not be worn when the<br />
blue dress <strong>uniform</strong> is worn as the <strong>uniform</strong> of the day.<br />
3004. BRASS ITEMS.<br />
1. Brass items that have a god or silver-plated mirror finish are considered<br />
anodized. Brass items that have a dull gold or silver appearance are<br />
considered oxidized. In addition to anodized and oxidized brass items,<br />
subdued insignia may be worn on the utility <strong>uniform</strong> and other field clothing<br />
as detailed in chapter 4.<br />
2. Marines may purchase and wear anodized brass items not available through<br />
the DoD supply system, but only as authorized in these <strong>regulations</strong>. Marines<br />
may also have their own brass items anodized at the individual’s expense.<br />
Anodized brass items not available through the DoD supply system may be<br />
purchased through Retail Clothing outlets and approved commercial sources.<br />
3. The following oxidized brass items are authorized until 1 March 2005, on<br />
which date their wear as anodized brass items becomes mandatory: khaki web<br />
belt and buckle, necktie clasp, Branch of Service cap insignia (screw post),<br />
dress blue coat buttons (small and large), dress coat waist plates, and dress<br />
cap screw post buttons.<br />
4. Unless otherwise authorized by this manual, anodized, oxidized and<br />
subdued brass items will not be mixed on the <strong>uniform</strong>.<br />
