MARINE CORPS UNIFORM REGULATIONS 8001<br />

Chapter 3, except that service tapes will be inscribed with “U.S. NAVY” in<br />

upper case letters with a space before “NAVY.”<br />

(2) The left breast pocket of the camouflage utility coat will not<br />

have iron on decals or embroidery. The left breast pocket of the combat<br />

utility coat will have the embroidered Marine Corps emblem. No alterations<br />

of the utility <strong>uniform</strong> worn by Navy personnel is permitted unless otherwise<br />

authorized by this manual.<br />

(3) If the wear of a camouflage helmet is required and issued by the<br />

Marine Corps, Navy personnel will wear a helmet cover with a Marine Corps<br />

emblem decal.<br />

(4) The extended cold weather clothing system (ECWCS) parka is<br />

normally issued to Sailors, and when issued as an organizational item, will<br />

be worn in accordance with the <strong>regulations</strong> provided in chapter 7 of this<br />

manual. The ECWCS parka may also be purchased by the individual as an<br />

optional <strong>uniform</strong> item and worn with utilities, except when specifically<br />

prohibited by the commander for reasons of <strong>uniform</strong>ity. Whenever the<br />

organizational or optional ECWCS parka is worn, collar grade insignia will be<br />

worn centered on the zipper flap in the space provided.<br />

(5) Female Navy personnel are not authorized to wear earrings or<br />

carry handbags with the utility <strong>uniform</strong>.<br />

3. Insignia. When Navy personnel wear the Marine Corps service <strong>uniform</strong> or<br />

Marine Corps utility <strong>uniform</strong>, branch of service insignia, insignia of grade<br />

and staff <strong>corps</strong> insignia will be worn according to the following:<br />

a. Caps (service, garrison and utility)<br />

(1) Navy officers and chief petty officers will wear their black<br />

miniature cap device on the left side of the garrison cap in the manner<br />

prescribed in paragraphs 4004 and 4005 of these <strong>regulations</strong>. Additionally,<br />

Navy officer collar grade insignia will be worn on the right side of the<br />

garrison cap. Personnel below the grade of chief petty officer will wear<br />

enlisted Marine Corps branch of service insignia on the garrison cap, as<br />

prescribed in subparagraph 4001.2. If the service frame cap is worn, the<br />

Marine Corps service cap insignia will be worn in the eyelet provided.<br />

(2) The utility cap will not be stenciled or embroidered with the<br />

Marine Corps emblem, but the combat utility field hat will have the Marine<br />

Crops emblem embroidered on the center panel (as issued/sold through approved<br />

sources). Navy officers will wear the appropriate subdued, pin-on cap<br />

insignia, while chief petty officers and petty officers will wear the<br />

appropriate subdued pin-on insignia of grade at the position on the cap where<br />

the Marine Corps emblem is normally stenciled or embroidered (except for the<br />

combat utility field hat). Enlisted Sailors, E-1 to E-3, will not wear<br />

insignia of grade on utility caps. Cap insignia of grade will not be worn on<br />

the field hat.<br />
