d. Dress frame cap: 27-line with screw-type back.<br />
3. The black plastic buttons are either medium (27-line) or large (40-line)<br />
and will be worn on the service <strong>uniform</strong> as follows:<br />
a. Service coat: 27-line on shoulder straps and men's pockets, 40-line on<br />
coat fronts.<br />
b. Service frame cap: 27-line with screw-type back.<br />
4004. INSIGNIA OF GRADE, ENLISTED (see figures 4-5 thru 4-10)<br />
1. General<br />
a. Enlisted Marines will wear only the grade insignia prescribed for<br />
their grade/gender, as available through the DoD Supply System or MCCSs.<br />
b. Cloth insignia is available in two sizes, large for men and small for<br />
women. Insignia will be sewn on garments with thread that matches the<br />
background material of the insignia using a straight machine stitch. No<br />
other style of stitching will be used.<br />
c. Scarlet broadcloth insignia (green on scarlet or gold on scarlet) may<br />
be finished with either a merrowed (whip-stitched) edge or a cut edge.<br />
Insignia and service stripes on the service and blue dress coats are to be of<br />
the same edge style.<br />
2. Regulations for Cloth Insignia<br />
a. Insignia will be of the design illustrated in figure 4-5 and will be<br />
worn single point up, centered on the outer half of each sleeve. Insignia<br />
will be placed 4 inches below the shoulder seam (3 inches for male first<br />
sergeant/master sergeant and above) except as otherwise noted below. (See<br />
figs. 4-6 and 4-7.)<br />
b. Green on scarlet insignia will be worn on green service coats.<br />
c. Green on khaki insignia will be worn on khaki shirts. On short sleeve<br />
khaki shirts, insignia will be centered between the shoulder seam and the<br />
bottom edge of the sleeve (men) or the peak of the cuff (women).<br />
d. Standard gold on scarlet insignia will be worn on blue dress coats.<br />
e. Washable gold on scarlet insignia may be worn on women's (blue dress)<br />
white shirts, centered between the shoulder seam and the peak of the cuff.<br />
However, they are no longer required.<br />
f. Distinctive 1890's style gold on scarlet insignia, as depicted in<br />
figure 4-8, will be worn on the SNCOs evening dress jacket, placed 3 inches<br />
below the shoulder seam. A reduced version (70 percent of original size) of<br />
this insignia will be worn on female SNCO evening dress jackets, three inches<br />
below the shoulder seam.<br />
