MARINE CORPS UNIFORM REGULATIONS<br />

worn with a bronze or gold star(s) will be worn as stated above, except the<br />

first bronze or gold star is placed to the wearer's left of the silver<br />

star(s) with additional stars alternating to the right of the silver star and<br />

so on.<br />

c. When stars are worn with other devices such as the bronze letter "V,"<br />

paragraph 5402 applies.<br />

2. Gold Stars. A gold star is worn on suspension ribbons of large/miniature<br />

medals and on the ribbon bars for all personal decorations in lieu of a<br />

second or subsequent award, except for strike/flight awards of the Air Medal<br />

(see subparagraphs 5402.4 and 5402.5). The gold star worn on the suspension<br />

ribbons of large medals and ribbon bars will be 5/16 inch in diameter. Those<br />

worn on suspension ribbons of miniature medals will be 1/8 inch in diameter.<br />

For <strong>regulations</strong> on wearing oak leaf clusters in lieu of gold stars see<br />

subparagraph 5404.1.<br />

3. Silver Stars. A silver star is worn on suspension ribbons of<br />

large/miniature medals and on ribbon bars in lieu of five gold stars, or in<br />

lieu of five bronze stars, except for strike/flight awards of the Air Medal<br />

(see subparagraphs 5402.4 and 5402.5). The 5/16-inch silver star will<br />

replace five 5/16-inch gold stars. The 3/16-inch silver star will replace<br />

the five 3/16-inch bronze stars. The silver star worn on suspension ribbons<br />

of miniature medals will be 1/8 inch in diameter.<br />

4. Bronze Stars<br />

a. Bronze stars are worn on suspension ribbons of medals or ribbon bars<br />

of the following awards to indicate a second or subsequent award or to<br />

indicate major engagements in which the individual participated:<br />

(1) Presidential Unit Citation<br />

(2) Navy Unit Commendation<br />

(3) Meritorious Unit Commendation<br />

(4) Prisoner of War Medal<br />

(5) Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal<br />

(6) Organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal<br />

(7) Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal<br />

(8) China Service Medal<br />

(9) World War II Campaign Medals<br />

(10) National Defense Service Medal<br />

(11) Korean Service Medal<br />

(12) Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal
