While components <strong>of</strong> a private university,the contract colleges employ a system <strong>of</strong> resident and nonresidenttuition rates to recognize the financial assistance thatNew York State provides to <strong>Cornell</strong> to support these colleges.<strong>Cornell</strong>’s only mandatory fee—the student activity fee—applies equally to all on-campus undergraduates.In addition to these main rates, <strong>Cornell</strong> charges other tuitionsfor undergraduates enrolled in <strong>of</strong>f-campus programs, withinthe U.S. and abroad. In some abroad programs, <strong>Cornell</strong>charges reduced tuition and the hosting university chargesthe student its own tuition and fees.
