CHAPTER 8 CONFIGURING EXADATAThe Private NetworkThe private network is serviced by the internal InfiniBand (IB) switches. This network manages RACInterconnect traffic (cache fusion, heartbeat), as well as iDB traffic between the database grid and thestorage grid. This network is self-contained within the InfiniBand network switch fabric and has nouplink to your corporate network. The network configuration can be found in the ifcfg-ib0 and ifcfgib1configuration files in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory. They are configured as bondeddevices, and the master device file is ifcfg-bondib0. For example, the following listing shows theInfiniband network configuration files from one of the database servers in our lab. Notice how theMASTER parameter is used to map these network devices to the bondib0 device./etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bondib0DEVICE=bondib0USERCTL=noBOOTPROTO=noneONBOOT=yesIPADDR=192.168.12.6NETMASK=255.255.255.0NETWORK=192.168.12.0BROADCAST=192.168.12.255BONDING_OPTS="mode=active-backup miimon=100 downdelay=5000 updelay=5000 num_grat_arp=100"IPV6INIT=noMTU=65520/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ib0DEVICE=ib0USERCTL=noONBOOT=yesMASTER=bondib0SLAVE=yesBOOTPROTO=noneHOTPLUG=noIPV6INIT=noCONNECTED_MODE=yesMTU=65520/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ib1DEVICE=ib1USERCTL=noONBOOT=yesMASTER=bondib0SLAVE=yesBOOTPROTO=noneHOTPLUG=noIPV6INIT=noCONNECTED_MODE=yesMTU=65520Notice that the MTU size for the IB network devices is set to 65,520 (bytes). MTU stands forMaximum Transmission Unit and determines the maximum size of a network packet that may betransmitted across the network. Typical Ethernet networks support an MTU size of up to 1,500 bytes. In239
