When all the above information is entered, Exadata will proceed to mount thebackup image across the network and recover the system. When the recoveryis finished, you will be prompted to log in. Log in as root using the passwordprovided in the Oracle documentation.6. Detach the diagnostics ISO from the ILOM.7. Reboot the system using the reboot command. The failed server should becompletely restored at this point. When the system finishes booting you can verify the recovery using the imagehistory command. The following listing shows that the image was created as a restore from nfs backup and was completedsuccessfully:[enkdb01:oracle:EXDB1] /home/oracle> su -Password:[enkdb01:root] /root> imagehistoryVersion : 11.2.1.2.3Image activation date : 2010-05-15 05:58:56 -0700Imaging mode: freshImaging status: success...Version : 11.2.2.2.0.101206.2Image activation date : 2010-12-17 11:51:53 -0600Imaging mode: patchImaging status: successVersion : 11.2.2.2.0.101206.2Image activation date : 2010-01-23 15:23:05 -0600Imaging mode: restore from nfs backupImaging status: successGenerally speaking, it’s a good idea not to get too creative when it comes to customizing yourExadata database server. Oracle permits you to create new LVM partitions and add file systems to yourdatabase servers, but if you do so, your recovery will require some additional steps. They aren’t terriblydifficult, but if you choose to customize your LVM partitions, be sure to document the changessomewhere and familiarize yourself with the recovery procedures for customized systems in the Oracledocumentation.Reimaging a Database ServerIf a database server must be replaced or rebuilt from scratch and there is no backup image to recoverfrom, an image can be created from an install image provided by Oracle Support. It is a lengthy andhighly complicated process, but we’ll hit the highlights here so you get a general idea of what thisprocess involves.298
