CHAPTER 8 CONFIGURING EXADATA10. Using one of your old storage cells for reference, create your grid disks using theCREATE GRIDDISK command. We discuss using this command in Chapter 14. Be sureyou create your grid disks in the proper order, as this will impact the performance ofthe disks. If you still have the original create scripts generated and run byOneCommand on the first compute node of your existing cluster, you will find all thecommands you need for creating your grid disks in the proper order. The scripts arecreateocrvotedg.sh and CreateGridDisk.sh and should be located in the/opt/oracle.SupportTools/tmp directory. If these files are not available, you can usethe size and offset attributes of the LIST GRIDDISK DETAIL command to determinethe proper size and creation order for the grid disks.11. Once you are finished configuring the cells and creating your grid disks, you can addthe cell to the storage grid. This is done on the compute nodes by adding the cell’sprivate InfiniBand network IP address to the /etc/oracle/cell/networkconfig/cellip.orafile on each database server.SummaryConfiguring Exadata is a very detailed process, and some things tend to change somewhat as newversions of the software become available. This chapter discussed some of the main points ofconfiguring Exadata compute nodes and storage cells, but it is not intended to be a substitute for theofficial Oracle documentation. Oracle has done an excellent job of documenting the platform, and youwill find the Owner’s Guide and User’s Guide to be invaluable assets when learning the ins and outs ofconfiguring Exadata. There is some overlap in subject matter covered in this chapter with the topicsdiscussed in Chapters 9 and 15, so you might find them helpful as a cross reference for some of theconfiguration tasks discussed here.273
