CHAPTER 8 CONFIGURING EXADATAConfiguration ParametersmtpUsersmtpPwdsnmpSubscriberDescriptionThis is the user name the storage cell will use for logging into the SMTP server. This password is used to establish sessions with your SMTPserver. If your SMTP server does not require authentication, this field may be left blank. This is the host, port, and community for receiving SNMPalert notifications. The port and community attributes areoptional. The default port is 162, and the default communityis ‘public’. For example: snmp.corporate.com,162,public.You may enter only one target here, but additional SNMPtargets can be added after the installation is complete.Step 2: The DBM ConfiguratorOnce you’ve completed the configuration worksheet, the information you gathered can be transferred tothe DBM (Database Machine) Configurator. The DBM Configurator is an Excel spreadsheet(dbm_configurator.xls) that generates all the input files OneCommand will need to carry out theinstallation process. The spreadsheet is located in the /opt/oracle.SupportTools/onecommand directoryon every compute node. The DBM Configurator is heavily documented in the Exadata Database MachineOwner’s Guide, so we won’t be discussing all of the fields here. But we will take a look at how a few ofthem are used in the installation process. Table 8-5 describes a few of the key data-entry fields from thespreadsheet.Table 8-5. DBM ConfiguratorFieldCustomer NameExadata Database Machine NameDescriptionThis field is used when creating the base directory for theoutput files generated by the Configurator. For example if thecustomer name is “OurCompany” then a directory namedC:\dbmachine_OurCompany will be created to store the outputfiles. As we discussed earlier, the machine name is used as a prefixfor network host names and as a suffix for ASM disk groupnames. Additionally, it is also used for the target directory name(inside the base directory mentioned above) for storing theoutput files. This allows the Configurator to manage theconfiguration of multiple Database Machine configurations.253
