CHAPTER 8 CONFIGURING EXADATAThe topic of ASM normal redundancy protection from double disk failure scenarios is not Exadata-specific.However, until the advent of Exadata, customers rarely trusted their data to ASM protection—opting instead forexternal redundancy.Exadata Smart Flash Cache: There is no mention of the flash cache in theconfiguration worksheet but there is in the DBM Configurator.Oracle Environment ParametersThe next set of parameters is used to define the O/S user and group accounts, as well as the location forthe Grid Infrastructure (Clusterware) and database software installation. These parameters are wellknown to DBAs who have been through an Oracle RAC 11gR2 installation or two. Table 8-2 shows theparameters you will need to provide. The parameters in italics cannot be modified in the configurationworksheet and are included for informational purposes only. Some of them, however, can be changedwhen you fill out the DBM Configurator later.Table 8-2. Oracle Environment ParametersEnvironment ParameterGrid Infrastructure user nameDefault ValueoracleGrid Infrastructure user identifier 1000RAC home user nameoracleRAC home identifier 1001Oracle inventory group nameoinstallOracle inventory group identifier 1001RAC home DBA group namedbaRAC home DBA group identifier 1002RAC home OPER group nameracoperRAC home OPER group identifier 1003ASM DBA group nameasmdbaASM DBA group identifier 1004247
