The scores dropped becausewe increased the number oftopics tested on the multiplechoice section for Fall 2010.2. This is the first semester thestudents are taking themultiple-choice section onlinefrom a randomly-drawn set ofquestions in a database. Thescores should start climbingagain in the summer.4. A review of the areas ofweakness on the PACE withthe Principles I coordinatorswill assess need changes inPrinciples I content.The criterion was met but afurther analysis of the scoreson individual questionsindicates three topics whichneed more emphasis becausedisproportionate largenumbers of students missedquestions in those topics.They are dividends, cost termsand controls. These will bereviewed with the instructors.This was the first semester touse this particular assessmentin ACC 3023 Intermediate I.Students were given the assetsection of a balance sheet andinstructions to write a memoexplaining how the assetswere valued and why theassets were valued in thatmanner to a member of theboard.For each objective, studentresponses improved betweenthe pre-test and post-test. Theperformance willcontinue to bemonitored to ensurethat the emphasis inPrinciples I is consistentwith the expectationsof the PACE.The criterion was met.Pending further analysisit appears thatweaknesses remain inthe three areasreported in the fall.These will be reviewedwith the instructors ofthe appropriatecourses.A new assessmentrubric was developedby the instructors inACC 3023 which theybelieve bettermeasures the learningof students in the class.The change inperformance fromunsatisfactory toacceptable wasimpressive, (+21percentage points) butthe overall percentscoring at an acceptablelevel was still not to the70% level. Twosubareas of theassessment instrumentindicate the need forgreater emphasis whichthe instructors willprovide in subsequentsemesters.41

Furtheranalysis of the scoring sheetswill be used to provideadditional evidence of areasof weakness.Three of five items aremarginally satisfactory andwill be watched in futureassessments. Theperformance on the last twoitems is clearly notsatisfactory. The instructorswill revise the materials theyare using for this project toinclude more in-depthcoverage of those two topics.Of the 37 discussion memosevaluated, 31 memosreceived a score ofsatisfactory for 70% or moreof the seven objectives,resulting in an overall successrate of 84% of the discussionmemos. Therefore theassessment criterion is metsince the percentage ofstudents achieving asatisfactory rating on 70% ofthe objectives is more thanthe required percentage of70% of the studentsubmissions. Theinstructor usesindividual feedback toreinforce performance.Of the 18 items on theproject five continue topresent difficulty for thestudents. Goal seekand recording macrosare still yielding lessthan satisfactoryresults. More emphasison those two areas willbe made in futureassignments.The scores achieved forindividual objectiveswere reviewed toidentify areas whereactions could be takento improve studentperformance on theobjectives. Twoobjectives were foundto have values of lessthan 70%.42
