While the position<strong>in</strong>g of the predicative connectives, the attributive connectives, the<br />

possessive clitic <strong>and</strong> the clause <strong>in</strong>itial clitics has been amply illustrated, that of the rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

two sets of clitics requires further discussion.<br />

First, when modify<strong>in</strong>g a verb, the modifier <strong>and</strong> locative clitics occur after any tense/aspect<br />

markers, discourse markers <strong>and</strong> lexical adverbs, <strong>and</strong> closest to the verb stem (as <strong>in</strong> (9)<br />

above). Consequently, their location with<strong>in</strong> the predicate phrase can be described as to the<br />

left of the head. In contrast, when modify<strong>in</strong>g a noun, the modifier <strong>and</strong> locative clitics occur<br />

to the left of the head <strong>and</strong> before any lexical modifiers that happen to be present (Stebb<strong>in</strong>s<br />

2003:410). As is illustrated <strong>in</strong> (17) (<strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> (2) <strong>and</strong> (3) above), the modifier łgu= ‘little’ attaches<br />

to another modifier with<strong>in</strong> the NP to act phrasally on the noun head:<br />
