: lnoculum consisted of deionized water, mineral stocks, native soil, aerated<br />
mixed liquor and raw sewage. lnoculum was aged prior to test initiation.<br />
The test chemicals were added to flasks containing medium and inoculum.<br />
The flask were incubated and shaken in the dark for 28 days. Twelve<br />
flasks were prepared; 3 controls, 3 dextrose, 3 test substance and 3 with<br />
test substance and HgC12 (to prevent microbial growth). The CO2<br />
production was captured in KOH solution.<br />
500ml Erlenmeyer flasks were used as test vessels. Test flasks were<br />
shaken at a rate of 60rpm at 25 +I- 2 deg C. Plate count at initiation was<br />
1.7 x 105 colony/ml. The pH at initiation was not reported.<br />
Three test trials were conducted. The methods described are those of trial<br />
#3.<br />
