Cardiology <strong>Research</strong>Combine blood pressure data (via NIBP100A) withcardiac output data (via EBI100C) to indicate systemicvascular resistance on a beat-by-beat basis. Use theEquation Generator to determine vascular resistance asblood pressure divided by blood flow. For blood pressuremeasurements, AcqKnowledge can provide mathematicallyprecise mean blood pressure via the arithmetic meancalculator from the Rate function, or via the followingMAP formula in the Equation Generator.MAP = [(2 • Diastolic) + Systolic] / 3Autonomic TestingDuring certain activities, elements of the autonomicnervous system can be tested by simultaneously measuringbeat-by-beat blood pressure, ECG and end-tidal CO 2 .These activities include the tilt table test, deep breathingtest and the Valsalva maneuver. For example, uprightposition angles of greater than 30 degrees (on the tilt table)usually activate the sinoaortic baroreflex, which is essentialfor the maintenance of blood pressure and cerebralperfusion while standing.Long-term MonitoringThe NIBP100A can be attached to a subject for an extendedperiod, due to its novel tonometric measurementtechnique, which, unlike the auscultatory and oscillometrictechniques, does not restrict the subject’s blood flow.Orthostatic TestingBlood pressure varies based on the subject’s physicalorientation in a gravitational field. The NIBP100 can beattached to a subject placed on a tilt table. Use TSD109accelerometers to determine the exact tilt in allthree spatial dimensions and record the X, Y and Zaccelerometer signals simultaneously with the varyingblood pressure signal.Automatic Data ReductionThe powerful data reduction function will reduce large(24-hour) data files to manageable sizes. Select theappropriate measurements (Max, Min, Mean, Std Dev,Delta, Pk-Pk, Time of max, Time of min) and thesummary time delta—the software will automaticallyanalyze the data and enter the values into a Journal fileand display the data as a new channel. Analyze bothprimary signals (such as blood pressure) and derived data(such as Systolic BP).
