Ascend a little coiner on the right <strong>and</strong> move to theright up to a raven's nest. (Piton from a previous attempt).Move right <strong>and</strong> up steeply to small trees.(3) 40 feet. Follow a gangway to the right to a small ledge below abulge (piton). Climb the bulge with difficulty to an abruptfinish.DEEPDALESCRUBBY CRAGBEOWULF 200 feet Very severe. First ascent 29thSeptember, 1959. N. J. Soper, P. E. Brown.Starts as for Ringway on the wall between Juniper Crack <strong>and</strong>Ringway.(1) 20 feet. As for Ringway—climb the wall to a ledge.(2) 70 feet. Climb the wall above on small holds, first trendingright to surmount a bulge, then left into <strong>and</strong> across a shallowgroove. An awkward grass mantelshelf leads to a stancewith flake belay 15 feet up on the right. (Junction withpitch 3 <strong>of</strong> Long Ledge Entry.)(3) 110 feet. Ascend past the belay to the prominent overhangwhich is reached at its left-h<strong>and</strong> end. Climb the overhangon good flake holds to a resting place below the curvedcrack. Thread runner. Climb the crack to a flake, traverseright for 15 feet <strong>and</strong> ascend on poor rock to the top <strong>of</strong> thecrag. Piton belay recommended.MIDNIGHT SPECIAL 80 feet. Mild very severe. First ascent 14thINDEPENDENT June, 1959. N. J. Soper, R. Collier, J. M.FINISHRodgers. Starts on the small grass ledge at thestart <strong>of</strong> the final pitch <strong>of</strong> Ringway.80 feet. Climb the groove (which is 15 feet left <strong>of</strong> the final pitch <strong>of</strong>Ringway) by strenuous bridging to a recess at 40 feet. Movediagonally right <strong>and</strong> continue to the top <strong>of</strong> the crag. Naturalbelay 20 feet higher.DUDDONWALLOWBARROW CRAGNARROW SLAB 95 feet. Very difficult. First ascent 6th May,VARIATION 1957. G.W.M., G. Pilkington. Starts after along 100 foot run out on first two pitches <strong>of</strong>Wall <strong>and</strong> Corner route. A belay is taken at the perched block. Awalk right <strong>of</strong> a few feet brings one to the foot <strong>of</strong> the narrow slab.(1) 80 feet. Straight up the narrow slab <strong>and</strong> then to the righton poor holds until a step left <strong>and</strong> a long stride right bringthe top <strong>of</strong> the slab within reach.(2) 15 feet. Now up an Amen Corner.
