ACTA TECHNICA CORVINIENSIS – BULLETIN of ENGINEERINGin coastal zones is multifunction area; consist ofrecreation, commercial and leisure. Morninghours, people do some exercises regularly, andduring the day, commercial and cafeteria arepredominant the whole area. Teenagersoccupied some interesting spot area after schoolhours, talking with friends or playing. Theyenjoy the beautiful scenery of the sun goesdown to the sea, and it is the best moment in thecity. Sunday morning and holidays, the placesare more crowded because some people fromthe region come to visit the area.Manado It plays important role for socialgathering. It has only 3654 squaremeters wide.People use the field mainly for sporting facilityparticularly playing football. Sometimes theyused for exhibition, social gathering andpromotion affairs, or ceremony religious on thecelebration day. There are pedestrian waysaround; outside the short fences enclosed thefield. Ketang Baru field has only one access fromneighborhood street.Figure 3: Bahu Mall and Mega Mall seaside areaResemble Bahu Mall, Mega Mall area is relativelynew development and still going underconstruction in some parts. The main activitiesin this area are commerce, sporting, publicentertainment and baystreet cafe for enjoyingbeautiful scenery of sunset. Some parts ofreclamation area (16%) belongs to the localgovernment of Manado and proposed to beallocated for urban greenery system.Community Open spaceTwo objects chosen as neighborhood openspace in Manado are Ketang Baru field inKampung Ternate and Bantik field in Malalayangdistrict. At Ketang Baru, a community openspace lies on the center of high density district inFigure 4: Ketang Baru and Bantik FieldAt Malalayang districts, a small public openspace 2378 m2 lies on the north side of maincorridor Trans Sulawesi. It is the only open spacein the middle of housing settlement area in thesouth part of Manado. Covering by grass court,people use it for playing in the afternoon or justwalking and passing through. Sometimes theyuse for special occasion like musical shows orcultural events. Maintenance of this space ismanaged by local authority; they create somedecorative garden as a borderline with TransSulawesi. This kind of community open spaceserved more than 50 000 habitants in theneighborhood.OBSERVATION APPRAISAL OF PARTICIPANTSUrban Community in Manado generally uses theopen space available for leisure andentertainment or doing some exercises in themorning.
