HaverhillONS Population Estimate 2007: 23,881Position in <strong>Core</strong> <strong>St</strong>rategy Settlement Hierarchy: TownHaverhill has a good network of existing infrastructure. In Haverhill infrastructuretypes such as shops, leisure attractions and open space are all provided in verygood quantities and qualities for a town of Haverhills‟ size. Currently there isexisting capacity within the network of schools within the town, although with anypotential housing growth this excess will be quickly taken up. The transportnetwork is reasonable but it is apparent that significant infrastructure works to theroad network are required to support any growth and that public transport shouldbe improved, particularly where it could replace commutes by private car. Theprovision of outdoor sports facilities (pitches and courts), allotments andplaygrounds should be considered as a priority in new development, as thesetypes of facility are in under supply compared with the Replacement 2016 LocalPlan‟s target ratio. One key issue to overcome is the apparent current lack of GPfacilities as an „Essential‟ Infrastructure, although this is set to be rectified by thetemporary Polyclinic provision.
