Oasys LS-DYNA Environment: User Guide (Version 8.1)
LS-DYNA Manual Section: *INTERFACE_COMPONENT
Example of: Response of a Cube
Example File Names: cube_interface_1.key
cube_interface_2.key
Execution Line: Initial run: cube_interface_1.key + write interface segment file
Second run: copy cube_interface_1.isf1 to cube_interface_2.isf2
cube_interface_2.key + read interface segment file
Description:
A cube, one solid element, strikes and rebounds from an elastic plate. In the first run, interface files
contains the position of the master side of the slideline. In the second run, the cube mesh refinement
increases from 1 element to 8 elements. The slideline of the first simulation is then tied to the
slideline of the second simulation.
Model:
The material of the cube and the plate are elastic. The plate, that measures 40 × 40 × 2 mm 3 , is
modeled with 16 Belytschko-Tsay shell elements . The cube has a side length of 10 mm and is
initially positioned 10 mm above the plate. The initial velocity of the cube is 100 mm/s. The
calculations will run until 0.0003 seconds.
Input of the first run:
The position of the nodes on the surface facing the plate, are recorded every 2 × 10 -6 seconds in the
Interface-File . The initial velocity of the cube is on the solid element by the Box-Option
(*INITIAL_VELOCITY). Surface to surface contact, type 3, with thickness projections represents
the contact between the plate and cube. (*CONTACT_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE,
*CONTROL_CONTACT)
Input of the second run:
The mesh on the cube now contains eight solid elements with new node numbers. The nodes in the
Interface-File are also defined. Tied surface to surface contact ties the surface to the position of the
surface in the prior analysis. The prior surface is the master surface and the current surface is the
slave surface (*INTERFACE_LINKING).
