<strong>2005</strong>South African National ParksTOURISM DEVELOPMENTAND MARKETINGTOURISM OPERATIONSSales AdministrationOn 14 June <strong>2005</strong>, RoomSeeker celebrated one year in operation and, thehalf-a-million reservations mark was passed on 9 December <strong>2005</strong>. Theone-millionth receipt was issued through the system on 5 January <strong>2006</strong>and there are currently 520 registered active users on the RoomSeekersystem in <strong>SANParks</strong>.The replacement of RAFOS with a real time reservations and propertymanagement system (RoomSeeker) has broadened the scope andplaced a large responsibility on the clipboard. Due to the integrationof functionalities of, both, the reservation and front offi ces, the intentand commitment of management from a RoomSeeker and Hospitalityperspective is a joint opportunity to achieve a better system of controlof inventory as well as revenue control.Workshops and training were thus conducted throughout the parksto explain RoomSeeker functionalities, policies, procedures and howoperations within the system should be managed. In addition usersupport/assistance has been provided 24/7 to ensure effi cient completionof daily tasks.Statistics show a decrease in shortages / surpluses and timely reconciliationof cash drawers which is an indication that business units have startedto perform their responsibilities and understand the consequences ofnon-compliance to procedures.Universal AccessThis year saw the establishment of a baseline that will ensure that minimumstandards are set in delivering improved universal access to Tourismfacilities in national parks. Currently 4.48% of all accommodation unitscomply with the minimum requirements.GradingIn line with <strong>SANParks</strong> policy, the grading of facilities progressed well duringthe year and by 31 March <strong>2006</strong> 52% of all overnight accommodationand camping units had been assessed. Many of the units and campswere also pre-graded.18
