Other safe controls for nematodes include:1. Root knot nematodes can be destroyed by planting a season-long “garden” of lana or hairy vetch seedand elbon or cereal rye seed. The seeds should be a few inches apart. Then just before the rye blooms,cut it down (letting it decompose) and let the vetch and rye grass grow together until the end of the season.2. Add compost to increase the organic matter content of the soil.3. Add sugar or molasses at a rate of 1 pound per 50 feet.
