14Accessing the 121.5 MHz EmergencyFrequencyThe <strong>VXA</strong>-<strong>710</strong> can quickly access the 121.500 MHz EmergencyFrequency. This function can be activated even whenthe keypad lock function is in use.To access the EmergencyFrequency, pressthe key momentarily.To exit the EmergencyFrequency, press thekey momentarily.BASIC OPERATIONTuning MethodsThroughout this manual, you will see references to severaldifferent frequency setting methods. Each will be particularlyuseful in a particular operating situation, and theyare described below: VFO (Variable Frequency Oscillator)The VFO is a “tuningdial” system which allowsyou to tune through theAIR band and FM BCband using the DIAL selector, the Keypad, or the scanner.To select these bands, press the key momentarily. MR (Memory Recall)The MR (Memory Recall)mode of the <strong>VXA</strong>-<strong>710</strong> provides the userwith the ability to storeand recall as many as 68 channels in the radio’s mainmemory bank. These memory channels may also belabeled by you with an alpha/numeric name of up to 8characters in length, to aid in quick identification ofthe channel.
