Dance offers aunique opportunity to express musical ideas and sounds through bodymovement. Third Street believes that dance and music are inseparablyconnected and, in addition to the study of dance as a discipline of its own,the School recommends that all music students, at some point in theirmusical education, enroll in a dance class. In addition to enhancing thephysical connection to music that is so important in music making, musicstudents can develop a deeper understanding of many musical forms andexpressions which are based on dance forms, such as the waltz.In addition to offering an opportunity for physical and artistic expression,Third Street’s dance program emphasizes proper body alignment, healthyphysical development and the integration of music and dance.As students progress through the program, they follow a carefullydeveloped, sequential course of study that includes increased participationand performance opportunities.
