See page 13for beginner group class schedule.Initial Interview / Orientation: New students age 5 and under,or students with prior playing experience, must meet one-on-one with theDepartment Chairperson to evaluate his/her readiness or skill level. Allother students and parents participate in group orientation and placementsessions held once weekly during the fall and twice per month during thespring. Orientation session and placement dates will be provided uponenrollment.Group Option for Traditional Piano Students: The <strong>School</strong>recommends that all school-age piano students who are enrolled inTraditional Method individual lessons take at least one group class eachweek, such as <strong>Music</strong> Theory, <strong>Music</strong> Composition, Piano Ensemble or JazzEnsemble. When combined with Traditional Method individual lessons,these group classes are reduced-fee or tuition-free. Please see page 10for a description of the Traditional Method.Suzuki Repertoire Classes: For students learning to play the pianothrough the Suzuki Method, a weekly Suzuki Repertoire Class (Rep Class) isrequired. Each level of piano Rep Class has one weekday and one Saturdayoption and students must participate weekly. Students will be assignedto a Rep Class by the Department Chairperson based on level and teacherrecommendation. Please see page 10 for a description of the Suzuki Method.PIANO DEPARTMENT HONORS &PREPARATORY ENRICHMENT PROGRAMSPIANO CERTIFICATE PROGRAMThe Piano Certificate Program is designed for motivated piano studentswho are committed to achieving their full potential. The Piano CertificateProgram is open to both Suzuki and Traditional Method piano students.<strong>Third</strong> <strong>Street</strong> has adopted the curriculum of the National <strong>Music</strong>Certificate Program for the Piano Certificate Program curriculum. TheNational <strong>Music</strong> Certificate Program, the United States’ version of the highlyregarded Canadian Royal Conservatory of <strong>Music</strong> curriculum, provides a fairand challenging assessment tool that measures achievement and providesnational recognition of accomplishment. This program is free to all studentsenrolled in piano instruction.
