I amdelighted that you have chosen to join this warm and nurturing community, onethat strives to enable each student to achieve his or her full musical potential.Third Street Music School is many things to many people: it’s a place for toddlers to taketheir first steps as they explore the world of organized sound; it’s a place for school-age childrento hone skills and techniques that will provide a lifetime of learning and enjoyment; it’s aplace where students and their families come together to form social networks; and it’s a placefor adults and seniors to continue their lifelong exploration of music and the joy it brings.WELCOMEThere are many new and exciting happenings at ThirdStreet, many of which are described in this catalog.Here are a few highlights:Musicianship classes—music theory and composition—are an important part of learning a musical instrumentand they are also fields of music study in their own right. FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORWe feel so strongly about the importance of musicianshipclasses that we are expanding the School’s offerings so that musicianship classes are offeredmore frequently as a convenience to students. We have also added Jazz Theory and Improvisationto help further advance the growth of the Jazz Program at Third Street.We are thrilled to announce the creation of the Third Street Dance Company. Third Street is hometo many talented and passionate dancers. The Company’s various ensembles, like the School’sbands, orchestras and choruses, will rehearse every week and present performances throughoutthe year.Did you know that there are Endangered Instruments? They’re not exactly the same as endangeredanimals, but the concept is similar. The world (including Third Street!) needs more players of theviola, string bass, oboe, bassoon, French horn, orchestral percussion instruments, trombone andtuba. To continue enriching Third Street’s musical environment, the School will offer a first-year10% discount on tuition for all school-age students who study an endangered instrument.And, preference will be given to need-based financial aid requests for students who study anendangered instrument.That’s a short summary of a few of the new programs and initiatives for this year.
