OVERVIEW 9EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC <strong>INSTRUCTION</strong>Begin your child’s musical journey at a young age in <strong>Third</strong> <strong>Street</strong>’s EarlyChildhood <strong>Music</strong> Program, which encourages the development of social,rhythmic, emotional, creative and academic skills. Research has shown thatthere is a window of time in a young child’s life during which the capacityto achieve musical competence (and excellence) is greatly enhanced if thechild is exposed to an enriched musical environment. <strong>Third</strong> <strong>Street</strong>’s instructorsmake these “no pressure” courses fun and accessible. Students can apply theskills they acquire to all areas of their early childhood learning, especiallybuilding a strong foundation for future music and dance activities.BEGINNER GROUP CLASSESBeginner group classes are an effective way to start learning a newinstrument in an exciting and supportive environment. Classes are small,usually three to six students, and include 45 minutes of instruction.INDIVIDUAL LESSON <strong>INSTRUCTION</strong>One-on-one lessons, one teacher with one student at a time, provide anopportunity for concentrated work and individual attention. Individual lessonspromote skills, achievement and enthusiasm and are recommended for allstudents who wish to move along the pathway to musical excellence at<strong>Third</strong> <strong>Street</strong>. Individual lessons are offered in 30-minute, 45-minute and60-minute increments. (Beginner students have the option to register forbeginner group or partner instruction before taking individual lessons.)Please note: First year need-based tuition assistance is for beginner group instruction only.Need-based tuition assistance for individual lessons is limited to students who have at leastone year of instruction on their instrument.PARTNER LESSONSPartner lessons, one teacher with two students at a time, like individuallessons, also provide an opportunity for concentrated work and individualattention. Partner lessons are an excellent precursor to individual lessons.Partner lessons are available in 30- and 45-minute increments and arerecommended only for students who have little or no experience on theirinstrument and are of similar ages.First year students participating in beginner group classes, partner or individual lessons are alsoenrolled in Those Six Days Between, a two-session workshop for parents and students todevelop effective at-home practice skills.
