48 STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICESCLASS CANCELLATIONWhile the School doesn’t cancel classes often, it does occur occasionally,usually due to insufficient enrollment. Students or parents of students willbe notified immediately of any cancellation. The School will make everyeffort to reschedule the student for another class at a convenient time. Ifno such class is available, the School will issue a refund.SCHOOL CLOSINGSIn cases of inclement weather, Third Street will close when the New YorkCity public schools close. All school closings are broadcast on radio stationsWINS (1010 AM) and WOR (710 AM). Third Street will also send an e-mailnotice and updates will be posted to the home page of the School’s Website. Students can also call the School’s main telephone number, 212-777-3240, to hear a recorded message regarding closings. Missed lessons andclasses will be rescheduled at the earliest date possible.INSTRUMENT RENTALThird Street Music School provides rental of some woodwind, brass andstring instruments to students, subject to availability. Students shouldconsult with their instructor if they wish to rent an instrument. If aninstrument is available from the School, Student Support Services willnotify the student when it is ready to pick up. A refundable deposit, equalto the annual rental fee, is required. The School also partners with severalretail establishments that provide rental instruments. More informationabout these establishments is available from Student Support Services.STUDIO AVAILABILITYAll students are encouraged to practice every day. During times ofdecreased building use, e.g., Monday through Friday before 3:00 p.m. orafter 7:00 p.m., students may sign out a practice room at the Reception Desk.CHILD SAFETYThird Street seeks to be an oasis of arts learning for all who enter. While onthe premises, adults are expected to model behavior that is conducive tolearning and artistic exploration. Parents and/or caregivers are responsiblefor their children’s behavior and must supervise children when they are notinside a classroom or studio. Additionally:n Strollers are not permitted beyond the lobby and must be folded andhung on the stroller rack provided in the lobby. The School is notresponsible for strollers left outside the building.n Bicycles, skateboards, scooters and pets are not permitted on thepremises, including the courtyard. The School is not responsible foritems left outside or unattended.
