46 STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICESCan you pay your tuition in installments?Installment plans can be established at the time of enrollment. Familiesreceiving need-based financial aid are automatically placed on an installmentplan and the first payment is due at enrollment. Tuition, in full, mustbe paid by January 15, 2012. Failure to adhere to the payment schedulemay result in suspension of enrollment until payment is made.The <strong>School</strong> offers two payment plans:n Two (2) payments, one due by September 15 and one due by January 15.Additional fees are assessed on late payments.n Five (5) payments due monthly, September through January, by the 15 thof each month. Additional fees are assessed on late payments.Can you register for classes if you have an outstanding balance?Students may not register for additional classes or the next term unless alloutstanding balances are paid.How much will you be charged if your check is returned by the bankunpaid?There is a $25 service charge for all returned checks.NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AIDNeed-based financial aid is available to students who need financial help topay their tuition. Need-based financial-aid awards are based on theavailability of funds and students must provide proof of household incomeand other supporting documentation.<strong>Third</strong> <strong>Street</strong>’s applications for need-based financial aid are processed bythe National Association of Independent <strong>School</strong>s’ <strong>School</strong> & Student Services(SSS). To apply, applicants establish an account online at sss.nais.org andcomplete a Personal Family Statement (PFS). Once you have paid the $35application fee, upload or mail your documents to SSS. (Please allow 24hours for processing.) Applications must be updated for each term in thecalendar year (Fall/Spring and Summer). <strong>Third</strong> <strong>Street</strong>’s Tuition AssistanceCommittee will notify families of the award decision by mail.If you would like more information about need-based financial aid,please contact Student Support Services.MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPSStudents under the age of 18 can audition for merit-based scholarships inthe spring preceding each school year. Merit-based scholarships are awardedfor one year and based on the annual spring audition and a review of thestudent’s progress throughout the current year. Students and their parents candiscuss readiness, preparation and application for merit-based scholarshipswith their individual lesson instructor and the Department Chairperson.
