EXCELLENCE IN ADVANCING WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITYAWARDPurposeThis award recognizes individual employees’ or groups’ exceptional and innovative workto empower women as equal partners in preventing conflict and building peace incountries affected by crisis or conflict, or undergoing a significant political transition – bethis work in support of the U.S National Action Plan or the local country’s activitiesrelated to women, peace, and security.EligibilityGS, FS, FSN (both direct hires and Personal Services Contractors), USPSC, Fellows,RSSA, PASA and TAACS individual or working groups, teams, etc., are eligible.Approval Steps1. Supervisor (unless nominated by the employee’s Supervisor).2. Bureau/Independent Office Heads, Mission Directors.3. Bureau/Independent Office Awards Committee (BAC) (with “1325 SME” input).4. USAID Special Awards Committee.5. Administrator.Recognition1. Award Trophy2. $1,000 cash award (individual) or divided among eligible group members.*Other InformationThe goal of the award is to acknowledge the achievements of individuals or teamsresponsible for exceptional contributions to USAID’s implementation of the NationalAction Plan on Women, Peace, and Security. The award will equally honor efforts toengage men and boys in supporting the action plan’s ideals such as reducing genderbasedviolence. Outstanding achievement in advancing any one of the National ActionPlan’s five pillars, or a combination of them, may justify selection of this award:1. National Integration and Institutionalization: Helping to ensure that women, peace,and security priorities are an integral part of strategy, programs, learning, coordination,or operations in crisis and conflict-affected settings.61*OMB Memorandum 13-05 directs the suspension of discretionary monetary awards while sequestrationis in place. Beginning March 8, 2013 USAID will not issue monetary awards until otherwise directed.
