Dear ColleaguesNowadays the necessity for essential changes toward quality assuranceand improvement in basic medical education is unavoidable.Recently the Government of Islamic Republic of Iran has consideredradical changes and innovation in structure of medical education at alllevels. Therefore the Accreditation Plan of Medical Universities in Iranapproved and emphasized in the" Third Development Program".The Educational Deputy (ED) of Iranian Ministry of Health and MedicalEducation (MOHME) designed two plans:1- Following the WorldFederation for Medical Education( WFME) invitation, Educational Deputy(ED) of Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MOHME)pronouncedits own readiness to collaborate with these pilot studies project thencollaborate with "International Standards for Basic Medical EducationPilot Studies" of WFME . 2-The project of" Standardization ofUndergraduate Medical Education in Iran for Acquisition of InternationalAccreditation".In may 2003, the set of "Basic Medical Education WFME GlobalStandards for Quality Improvement 2003" translated into Persian by DrFaremeh Javidan & Ms Fahimeh Rabbanikhah and supervised with me . Itdisseminated among all of the medical universities in Iran. This action ledto encourage many of them to think about changing in accordance withWFME standards .Regarding to medical universities quality improvement in medicaleducation, it is expected, even if that this process does not lead tointernational accreditation acquisition, will include improvement andessential changes toward quality improvement in basic medical education.Dr. Bahram EinollahiSecretary of Supervision , Evaluation andExpansion of Medical Universities Councilof Ministry Of Health and Medical Education of Iran.٧٥
