Real–Time Phase Noise Impairments (Option 432)Real–Time Phase Noise ImpairmentReal–Time Phase Noise ImpairmentThis feature lets you degrade the phase noise performance of the signal generator by controlling twofrequency points and an amplitude value. The signal generator adds this phase noise to the phasenoise normally produced by the Agilent MXG. This feature appears in each of the arb formats and asa stand–alone menu. While the following figure shows how to access the controls using both thestand–alone menu and the Dual ARB player, the location and softkeys within each arb format is thesame as for the Dual ARB player.Figure 10-1 Stand–Alone and Dual ARB Player Real–Time Phase Noise SoftkeysThis softkey isavailable in all arbformats.Stand–alone menuUse to add phase noise to theCW output without having toplay a waveform. The display updates evenwhen the feature is off.For an explanation on thesesettings see“The Agilent MXG Phase NoiseShape and Additive Phase NoiseImpairments” on page 259.The start frequency for the flatmid–frequency characteristics. The end frequency for the flatmid–frequency characteristics.Flat Mid–Frequency AreaDenoted by f1 and f2The amplitude for the flatmid–frequency characteristics.(Lmid stands for the levelamplitude of the mid–frequencycharacteristic.)For details on each key, use key helpas described on page 42.NOTE: The phase noise impairment is added to the base phase noise ofthe signal generator.258 Agilent N5161A/62A/81A/82A/83A MXG Signal Generators User’s Guide
