Basic OperationEntering and Editing Numbers and TextEntering and Editing Numbers and TextEntering Numbers and Moving the CursorUse the number keys and decimal point to enter numeric data.Up/down arrow keys increase/decrease a selected (highlighted) numeric value, and move the cursor vertically.Page up/down keys move tables of data up and down within the display area.Left/right arrow keys move the cursor horizontally.Use the Select hardkey to choose part of an entry, as when entering alphacharacters. In some menus, the Select key also acts as a terminator, and isequivalent to the Enter softkey.To specify a negative value, enter thenegative sign either before or afterthe numeric value (this key is a toggle).Backspace moves the cursor to the left,deleting characters as it goes.Note: Rotating the knob increases ordecreases a numeric value, changes ahighlighted digit or character, or stepsthrough lists or items in a row.See also, Front Panel Knob Resolution on page 19For details on each key, see page 42.Entering Alpha CharactersNote: File names are limited to 25 characters.Data entry softkeys appear invarious menus. If their meaningis not clear in context, use thehelp key (described on page 42)to display an explanation. Usethe softkey next to the alphatable for help on the table.Selecting data that acceptsalpha characters, displays one ofthe menus shown at right.Use the arrow keys or knob tohighlight the desired letter, thenpress the Select hardkey (or thesoftkey next to the alpha table).To correct errors, use Bk Sp orClear Text.To terminate the entry, press the Enter softkey.to move the cursorwithin the active valuerather than within thealpha table, turn thealpha table off.Add/edit comments for savedinstrument state files (see page 70).A subset of this menu appears for hexadecimal characters.
