Getting under a vehicle when it is jacked up isdangerous. If the vehicle slips off the jack, youcould be badly injured or killed. Never get undera vehicle when it is supported only by a jack._INOTICE:4. Near each wheel well is a notch in the frame to putthe jack head into. The front notch is 10 inches(25 cm) back from the front wheel well. The rearnotch is 8 inches (20 cm) forward from the rearwheel well.5. .Position the jack and raise the jack head until it fitsfirmly on the ridge in the vehicle’s frame nearest theflat tire. Do not raise the vehicle yet. Put the compactspare tire near you.Raising your vehicle with the jack improperlypositioned will damage the vehicle or may allowthe vehicle to fall off the jack. Be sure to fit thejack lift head into the proper location beforeraising your vehicle.5-28
~ Rust'8. Remove any rust or dirtfrom the wheel bolts,mounting surfaces andspare wheel.6. Raise the vehicle by rotating the wheel wrenchclockwise in the jack. Raise the vehicle far enoughoff the ground so there is enough room for the sparetire to fit.7. Remove all the wheel nuts and take off the flat tire.or dirt on the wheel, or on the parts towhich it is fastened, can make the wheel nutsbecome loose after a time. The wheel could comeoff and cause an accident. When you change awheel, remove any rust or dirt from the placeswhere the wheel attaches to the vehicle. In anemergency, you can use a cloth or a paper towelto do this; but be sure to use a scraper or wirebrush later, if you need to, to get all the rust ordirt off.
