<strong>Park</strong>ing Brake and Automatic Transaxle PARK (P)Mechanism CheckA CAUTION:When you are doing this check, your vehiclecould begin to move. You or others could beinjured and property could be damaged. Makesure there is room in front of your vehicle in caseit begins to roll. Be ready to apply the regularbrake at once should the vehicle begin to move.<strong>Park</strong> on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facingdownhill. Keeping your foot on the regular brake, set theparking brake.@To check the parking brake: With the engine runningand transaxle in NEUTRAL (N), slowly remove footpressure from the regular brake pedal. Do this untilthe vehicle is held by the parking brake only.To check the PARK (P) mechanism’s holding ability:With the engine running, shift to PARK (P). Thenrelease all brakes.Underbody Flushing ServiceAt least every spring, use plain water to flush anycorrosive materials from the underbody. Take care toclean thoroughly any areas where mud and other debriscan collect.
