Those courses are going to begiven in the several national branches (auto evaluation, exams, <strong>of</strong>ficial credits, etc.).Explore the possibility to establish different course levels: e.g. Basic, Intermediate,Advanced Course.The <strong>of</strong>ficial textbooks <strong>of</strong> the school should be translated into other languages.Some courses should be primarily based on hands on training.Jose M. Carrera, MDPr<strong>of</strong>essorDexeus University InstituteBarcelona, SpainDr. CARRERA graduated in Medicine andSurgery from the University <strong>of</strong> Santiagode Compostela in 1962 and obtained adegree in Obstetrics and Gynecologyspeciality in 1965. In 1981 he earned adoctorate (Summa Cum Laude) for a thesisentitled «Contribution to the classification<strong>of</strong> intrauterine growth retardation».The Examining Board was thenchaired by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor ROBERT CALDEYROBARCIA, the current President <strong>of</strong> the InternationalFederation <strong>of</strong> Gynecologyand Obstetrics (FIGO).During his 40-year clinical and academiccareer, JOSÉ M. CARRERA chaired severalScientific Societies (Spanish <strong>Association</strong><strong>of</strong> Prenatal Diagnosis, Ibero-AmericanSociety <strong>of</strong> Prenatal Diagnosis, CatalanSociety <strong>of</strong> Obstetrics and Gynecology, etc.)and headed a number <strong>of</strong> specialized sectionswithin the SEGO (Spanish So ciety<strong>of</strong> Gynecology and Obstetrics), in cludingthe Ultrasonography Section and the <strong>Perinatal</strong>Medicine Section, etc. He was alsoChairman <strong>of</strong> the European Committeeon Doppler Technology, the EuropeanCommittee on Prenatal Diagnosis andthe European Diploma <strong>of</strong> Prenatal Diagnosisand Obstetric Ultrasonography. Hepresided over ten International Symposiaand ran more than 100 courses on <strong>Perinatal</strong>Medicine. In addition, he chairedthe 6 th Spanish Congress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Perinatal</strong> Medicine(Barcelona, 1984) and the 5 th <strong>World</strong>Congress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Perinatal</strong> Medicine (Barcelona,2001), amongst others. His publicationsinclude 42 books, 102 book chaptersand 232 scientific articles publishedin national and international journalsalike. Amongst the positions held, he wasappointed Pr<strong>of</strong>essor («Catedrático visitante»)<strong>of</strong> the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Medicine at theUniversity <strong>of</strong> Coimbra (1987), which laterawarded him the degree <strong>of</strong> DoctorHonoris Causa in 1995. He is also theChairman <strong>of</strong> Honorary Member <strong>of</strong> variousinternational Scientific Societies.He is currently Secretary General at theWAPM and the International Academy <strong>of</strong><strong>Perinatal</strong> Medicine.135
