Those courses are going to begiven in the several national branches (auto evaluation, exams, official credits, etc.).Explore the possibility to establish different course levels: e.g. Basic, Intermediate,Advanced Course.The official textbooks of the school should be translated into other languages.Some courses should be primarily based on hands on training.Jose M. Carrera, MDProfessorDexeus University InstituteBarcelona, SpainDr. CARRERA graduated in Medicine andSurgery from the University of Santiagode Compostela in 1962 and obtained adegree in Obstetrics and Gynecologyspeciality in 1965. In 1981 he earned adoctorate (Summa Cum Laude) for a thesisentitled «Contribution to the classificationof intrauterine growth retardation».The Examining Board was thenchaired by Professor ROBERT CALDEYROBARCIA, the current President of the InternationalFederation of Gynecologyand Obstetrics (FIGO).During his 40-year clinical and academiccareer, JOSÉ M. CARRERA chaired severalScientific Societies (Spanish Associationof Prenatal Diagnosis, Ibero-AmericanSociety of Prenatal Diagnosis, CatalanSociety of Obstetrics and Gynecology, etc.)and headed a number of specialized sectionswithin the SEGO (Spanish So cietyof Gynecology and Obstetrics), in cludingthe Ultrasonography Section and the PerinatalMedicine Section, etc. He was alsoChairman of the European Committeeon Doppler Technology, the EuropeanCommittee on Prenatal Diagnosis andthe European Diploma of Prenatal Diagnosisand Obstetric Ultrasonography. Hepresided over ten International Symposiaand ran more than 100 courses on PerinatalMedicine. In addition, he chairedthe 6 th Spanish Congress of Perinatal Medicine(Barcelona, 1984) and the 5 th WorldCongress of Perinatal Medicine (Barcelona,2001), amongst others. His publicationsinclude 42 books, 102 book chaptersand 232 scientific articles publishedin national and international journalsalike. Amongst the positions held, he wasappointed Professor («Catedrático visitante»)of the Faculty of Medicine at theUniversity of Coimbra (1987), which laterawarded him the degree of DoctorHonoris Causa in 1995. He is also theChairman of Honorary Member of variousinternational Scientific Societies.He is currently Secretary General at theWAPM and the International Academy ofPerinatal Medicine.135
