ArgentinaBranchDirector: Dr. Liliana Voto | Established: Year 1980The Argentine branch <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ian</strong> <strong>Donald</strong> <strong>School</strong> dates back to 1980, when its first meetingwas held jointly with the meeting on ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecologytraditionally organized by the Margulies Foundation on a yearly basis. Pr<strong>of</strong>. MIGUELMARGULIES and Pr<strong>of</strong>. LILIANA VOTO pioneered the opening <strong>of</strong> this branch in Argentinaand River Plate area. Both the Foundation and the <strong>Ian</strong> <strong>Donald</strong> <strong>School</strong> branch have sinceworked in close partnership, collaborating with and enriching each other’s work.All the scientific meetings organized by both institutions, which have been <strong>of</strong> the highestacademic standard, have <strong>of</strong>fered lectures by renowned specialists from Argentinaand overseas: Pr<strong>of</strong>essors ASIM KURJAK, FRANK CHERVENAK, ROBERTO ROMERO, MANFREDHANSMANN, STUART CAMPBELL, TIMOR TRITCH, SONJA KUPESIC, LARRY PLATT, EBERHARTZMERZ, PETER GRANUM, JOSHUA COPEL, IVAN ZADOR, ISAAC BLIKSTEIN, RITSUKO POOH, KAZUOMAEDA, JOSÉ MARÍA CARRERA, FERNANDO BONILLA MUSOLES among many others. In 2005,during The Fetus as a Patient congress in Buenos Aires, the Argentine branch <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ian</strong><strong>Donald</strong> <strong>School</strong> organised an special <strong>Ian</strong> <strong>Donald</strong> <strong>School</strong> Course with 124 participants.On average, the total number <strong>of</strong> participants at each event has been about 250 people(from Argentina and neighbouring countries). In1992 she became a specialist in PublicHealth (Salvador University). Dr. VOTOwas appointed as Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<strong>of</strong> Obstetrics at Buenos Aires Universityin 1991 and promoted to Full Pr<strong>of</strong>essorin 1997. She was also made FullPr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Obstetrics at Barceló Universityin Buenos Aires in 1996.Pr<strong>of</strong>essor VOTO’s main contributionshave been in the field <strong>of</strong> Rh isoimmunization,hypertension in pregnancy and55
