ArgentinaBranchDirector: Dr. Liliana Voto | Established: Year 1980The Argentine branch of the Ian Donald School dates back to 1980, when its first meetingwas held jointly with the meeting on ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecologytraditionally organized by the Margulies Foundation on a yearly basis. Prof. MIGUELMARGULIES and Prof. LILIANA VOTO pioneered the opening of this branch in Argentinaand River Plate area. Both the Foundation and the Ian Donald School branch have sinceworked in close partnership, collaborating with and enriching each other’s work.All the scientific meetings organized by both institutions, which have been of the highestacademic standard, have offered lectures by renowned specialists from Argentinaand overseas: Professors ASIM KURJAK, FRANK CHERVENAK, ROBERTO ROMERO, MANFREDHANSMANN, STUART CAMPBELL, TIMOR TRITCH, SONJA KUPESIC, LARRY PLATT, EBERHARTZMERZ, PETER GRANUM, JOSHUA COPEL, IVAN ZADOR, ISAAC BLIKSTEIN, RITSUKO POOH, KAZUOMAEDA, JOSÉ MARÍA CARRERA, FERNANDO BONILLA MUSOLES among many others. In 2005,during The Fetus as a Patient congress in Buenos Aires, the Argentine branch of the IanDonald School organised an special Ian Donald School Course with 124 participants.On average, the total number of participants at each event has been about 250 people(from Argentina and neighbouring countries). Prof. LILIANA VOTO, Prof. LUCAS OTAÑOand Dr. JORGE HAMER have also collaborated actively with the Ian Donald School meetingsheld in Montevideo, Uruguay, under the joint leadership of Dr. ANA BIANCHI (Uruguay)and Prof. LILIANA VOTO (Argentina).In April 2009, the Argentine Ian Donald School branch will participate in the 3 rd meetingto be held in Iguagú, Misiones Province, in the north east of the country, wherethe highest rate of maternal, foetal and perinatal morbidity and mortality has beenrecorded.Liliana S. VOTO graduated fromthe University of Buenos Aires Schoolof Medicine in 1973 and obtained herPhD in medicine from the same universi-ty in 1984. She completed her residencyin Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1979and five year later she joined the facultyof the Buenos Aires University School ofMedicine as an Assistant Professor. In1992 she became a specialist in PublicHealth (Salvador University). Dr. VOTOwas appointed as Associate Professorof Obstetrics at Buenos Aires Universityin 1991 and promoted to Full Professorin 1997. She was also made FullProfessor of Obstetrics at Barceló Universityin Buenos Aires in 1996.Professor VOTO’s main contributionshave been in the field of Rh isoimmunization,hypertension in pregnancy and55
